Thanks Ocarns, but it looks like even a modular approach is not simple enough to be a drag-n-drop (kinda like a wysiwyg html editor). But will look into it nevertheless.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI am looking for a "template database site" that will make it easy for me to start a database-driven site. I guess the concept is similar to using MS Word templates, but for a database site instead. The database template would allow me to set the site up so visitors could browse, register, search for data, pay for particular data, enter criteria, upload pics and mp3's, be notified by email of certain events, etc. It would have these basic functions already; I would just select which ones I needed to be active, name them, give them colors and fonts, and they would be ready to operate. Does such a template/service exist?
The number of users of the site would start out at under 5,000, but the site would need to give fast performance (with proper hosting, of course) for up to 500,000 users. I will be designing the site myself, so it needs to be simple and not too technical (I'm not into html or visual or anything else.) The site will have no frames, no popups, preferably no scripts, and dare I attempt to do so... no cookies.
As for as an example of what I'm trying to build, the one site I've found that is most like what I want to design is www.cdbaby.com
Any ideas?
Bryan

Bryan,
One of the standard modules that comes with the portal is a HTML wysiwyg Editor. For what you are wanting this is the easiest solution going. The only technical steps is creating the SQL database and assigning it a username and password. After that you just upload the files and the site is live (the tables etc... are created upon first page visit).

I have FREE ASP Blog software available at http://bluefugu.biz.tm
It's just a free ASP page that allows you to post or let others post data.
And of course it can be customized. One person made it into a full website that I know of (they copied the bfn.asp file to other filenames, then made links to each page).
If you can't get it to run, post here so everyone can learn.
If you want to add drag and drop, let me know and I'll walk you through adding your own customized stuff to it. Checkboxes, radioboxes, etc etc.

I think what you are asking for is a content management solution. There is a great opensource project call DotNetNuke here: http://www.dotnetnuke.com/
This would require no programming knowledge and there are plenty of modules you can purchase to extend the functionality found here http://www.snowcovered.com
