Import .csv file into SQL dbase tables

Before I ask my programmer to import information into a dbase, I'd like some opinions on whether or not it can be done...Here's the scenario:

I have a SQL 2000 dbase residing on an Internet site.  All the forms and data entry to the hosted dbase are written in Visual InterDev as .asp pages on our server.  The users also have a local accounting package (on their hard drive) that has information that needs to be exported out of their accounting software and imported into the dbase residing on the server.  There would need to be several lines of information regarding each "payment" coming from the accounting package (a record for client information, a record for supplier information, a record for payment information, etc).  I would like to import these records into the Internet dbase.  Can code be written that will read a .csv file and update several SQL tables?  If so can it be read a field at a time to import?

Yes and Yes on most web servers.  Use the Filesystem Object to open and read data from your import file, and write the appropriate asp code to update the database.  Call this asp page however you wish (on my hosting company you can schedule asp pages).

there are several ways to do it, most common is to use FSO (FileSystemObject) and parse th e whole file for the values. Even better way to do it is to use ADO to access the CSV file (use an appropriate provider) and run a "select *" query against the csv file (it will be treated as a database), fetch all the records in the recordset and dump them in your target database.
