Browse All TopicsI just started working with Google Maps API. The manuals I have and examples I've seen all use latitude and longitude coordinates instead of street addresses. Is there a technical reason for this? The map I'm making shows business locations on a city map.
Thanks, Gary

A Google Maps API expert answered this question offline...
The coordinate system is an excellent method of locating a point on a surface. Addresses are at best inexact and can
be extremely difficult to pinpoint. Many streets have duplicate names inside the same city, so they are not suitable for the task of
absolutely defining a point.
Addresses can be converted into coordinates by the process of geocoding, however, this process is also inexact. I suggest Googling
the topic for more information on how to use the process.
