Yahoo Game Pinochle freezes intermittently; must use Task Mgr to end; reinstalled Win XP HomeSP2 and Java V6U3

I am trying to support an elderly woman who plays the Pinochle game on Yahoo Games. Sometimes the game works fine, but frequently the game becomes unresponsive to a left mouse click. Once that has occurred, the only way to close the game is to use the Task Manager. This problem occurs in both Internet Explorer (6 and 7) and Firefox (2.0.0.8). I have totally reinstalled Windows XP Home SP2 (not just tried to repair it) and downloaded and installed all updates and the latest version of Java -- Ver 6 Upd 3. The system is a Dell Dimension 4600c; antivirus product is Avast Home Edition. The woman I am trying to help is literally frantic that her Pinochle game is not working.

Is anyone aware of problems like this with Java games? Is there any known incompatibility between Java and the Intel integrated graphics or the SoundMAX audio drivers? Can anyone suggest a course of action to fix the problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanceStart Free Trial
