The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need solution for automating online newsmagazine... suggestions?

Asked by EmeraldIsleNC in WebApplications, Miscellaneous Web Development, Industry Specific Software

I'm looking for advice on what solutions and/or products are available for automating the process of maintaining an online newsmagazine.

Ideally, here's what we'd need to accomplish:

- Our writers could upload their columns via a web-based form. Content would then wait in a queue until an editor could copy-edit the item, then simply click on "publish" to make the article go live.

- Fixed front page and categories layout so that whenever new items are added, old news items from the front page are automatically shifted off the front page (or down the page, as the case may be) and into an archive based on whatever criteria (subject, author, etc.)

- Potential for subscription-only based content

Right now we have a massive online news magazine that is a beast to maintain, as our archives have gotten so enormous AND the original site was created in Microsoft FrontPage eight years ago!!

I'm using Dreamweaver for our other website projects now, and when we revamp this site, we plan to store the entire old site in an archive folder that will still be accessible to website visitors, but the new site should all be entirely automated with web-based management for writers and editors.

I'm not sure if I should be looking into a particular programming language (which frankly scares me, as I'm a website designer and certainly no programmer!) or if there are any applications currently available that we can install on the server (sort of like you would an online forum or community, but that is geared towards news and features) and then customize to our "brand" and that would be that.

Any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
