I created a button and tried to attach an URL to the button after clicking the button on the main stage.
Then I got a message saying : "Current actions cannot have actions applied to it."

That syntax is totally valid... The only time when it won't work is when you do not have a button with its instance name set to 'google'...
Try creating a new FLA file, create a dummy button, give it an instance name of google, paste that code example, and do test movie to see if that works for you...

It seems like you are trying to add something like on (press) { ... } on top of a button, but you are not able to...
If that is the case... ActionScript 3 won't let you add in such actions on the button itself... You need to place the scripts inside the frame not on top of it...
If that is not the case, please explain more...
