ASP coding. Using value of a variable in a URL rather than name of variable

Question from a novice web programmer. This must be a very simple point which I am misunderstanding.

Could someone please advise how I can get the value of a variable to be used in a URL rather than the name of the variable?

I have the following code at the start of one of my ASP pages. (The ASP page contains a form for input of a record to a database, and it works OK).

fred=Request("Seller")
Response.Write fred
%>

The Response.Write fred line is just diagnostic code which I have inserted to prove to myself that
Request("Seller") and fred contain the correct value. They do.

The Front Page 2000 code contains the following line defining the URL of the confirmation page for the input form:

U-Confirmation-Url="AddMachine.asp?Seller=fred"

In the case I tested, fred contained the value 29.

I wanted the confirmation page to be accessed via:
AddMachine.asp?Seller=29

But in fact an error resulted, because the URL used was in fact AddMachine.asp?Seller=fred
