The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Searching a website

Asked by GnatMan in Active Server Pages (ASP)

Hi there experts,

Is there an easy way to utilise a search in ASP of an entire website? or of maybe the site's sitemap. I have a friend's ASP script here that uses a DE.Runtime library

<%
'declare variables
dim DE, strSearch, count, strHTML
'set DataEnvironment

Set DE = Server.CreateObject("DERuntime.DERuntime")

DE.Init(Application("DE"))

'set search string
strSearch = Trim(Request.Form("search"))

DE.comsearch strSearch
count = 1
'session from pageval.asp page
Response.Write "<font size=""+1""><b>Search Results</b></font><br>"
Response.Write "<font size=""-2""><b>Your Search = " & strSearch & "</b></font><br><br>"

While NOT DE.rscomsearch.eof
      strHTML = count & ". " & "<a href=" & Trim(DE.rscomsearch.fields("category")) & ".asp?page=" & Trim(DE.rscomsearch.fields("pageid")) & "&cat=" & Trim(DE.rscomsearch.fields("category")) & ">" & Trim(DE.rscomsearch.fields("heading")) & "</a><BR>"
      Response.Write strHTML
      count = count + 1
      DE.rscomsearch.movenext()
Wend
Response.Write "<br>There are " & count - 1 & " record(s) found"

Set DE = Nothing%>

the thing is he is using SQL server, and we are using Access. Does this script have anything to do with SQL Server in terms of searching or does it ignore it altogether and use the DataEnvironment library thing to just search the entire website? I ask this because am I able to search my site using this DE.Runtime component as well even if the script may need to be changed to accomodate for Access instead of SQL server? If so can someone please point me in the right direction or give me a URL that will help me out. Thanks for any help, I'm still floundering.
