Hi,
I have written a menu bar with drop down menu (similar to the one in Microsoft web site) for IE 4.0 using <div> and <table> elements.
I am using this menu in a page which contains some <select> and <input> controls. When I pull down the menu items, the <select> control always appear on top of the menu. However other controls like <input> appears beneath the drop down menu.
I tried changing the z-index property of the <div> element (drop down menu). No effect.

No other Problem
Check You r Z index again...
May Be Put ur Select in a div...
and increase the Z index value...
Or Set ur <DIV> tag Z index to 10 or more if it is not Working for 0...
I had the Same Problem...in IE.
I increased the Z index(to 10) and Got the Control Behind a control whose zindex was 0...
try All the Possible ways With Just ur Z index...
Note:Place ur control in the Div tag...

give it up there is nothing you can do about it. no z-index will help.
this is the best answer i can give you.
but there are 3 things that you can do:
1. shorten your menu bar or make it a vertical one for example:

2. don't use a <select> control.
3. move the select control so it will not be on top your.
You can use emulation of select box using example described at
http://webfx.eae.net/dhtml
but for netscape You had to create alternative code (or use simple select box)

This is an IE problem, we had the same problem when we tried to implement a DHTML drop menu system. Basically you have to hide Selects, Objects and IFrames from view if a DIV goes over them.
Try this code, you'll probably have to tweek a bit but it DOES work (leftX,rightX,bottomY,topY
