For insert a new record

I made an asp file for insert a new record in to a SQL database and is working good, in fact the SQL data base don't let you repeat a record in the DNI column, but when this happend i have a browser message and i want to check the record first for tell to the user to try another if this already exist. Which code can i use?

You could create a stored procedure to do the checking for you..

CREATE PROC sp_AddRecord
@Value1 VARCHAR(10),
@Value2 VARCHAR(10)
AS
if not(exists(select * from tblTest WHERE Value1 = @Value1 AND Value2 = @Value2))
   BEGIN
       INSERT INTO tblTest (Value1, Value2)
       SELECT @Value1, @Value2
       SELECT @@IDENTITY as NewRecordID
    END
else
     SELECT -1 as NewID


Then you just create the command object, pass it the parameters, execute it to a recordset, and examine the return result.  Although it seems like more work, its a more effective way of coding your database decisions...

LocalDNIVariable = where you store the local value of the 'DNI' in your asp file

Its Simple, First use SELECT statement to check the existance of record.

 Flash a message 'Record already exist' <br>
Otherwise  <br>
 execute the Insert statement
