The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

ASP Upload problems

Asked by kiphughes in Active Server Pages (ASP)

please take a look at line 9 for the ASP Simple Upload script (http://www.asphelp.com/ASPSimpleUpload/Docs/),
which is: NewFileName = "/Uploads/" & upl.ExtractFileName(upl.Form("File1"))

i've been testing the script and noticed something odd. there is a sequence that needs to be followed in order to see the oddity:

1. upload file using the original code. it uploads to the /Uploads/ directory of web server root. directory "Uploads" is created if it does not already exist.

2. change the code by appending a new directory to the /Uploads/. make it, say, /Uploads/new/ and try uploading again. it works and saves the file in /Uploads/new/ directory. directory "new" under "Uploads" is create if it does not already exist.

3. go into the web server root and delete the directory /Uploads/ -- which will delete the file uploaded to it, delete the sub-directory /new/, and file uploaded to /new/.

4. keeping the new code with /Uploads/new/ -- try uploading again. i get this error:

*************************************************
Error:
There was an error writing the uploaded file to the disk. Please check the permissions on the SERVER and make sure the directory (whatever my web server root is\Uploads\test\) has write permission for the group "Everyone"
*************************************************
There was an error saving the file to disk.

apparently, the script can only create up to one directory. is this correct? must the directory already exist if i want to upload anything beyond the /Uploads/ directory?

another observation of mine: if u cancell the upload process by clicking the stop button of the browser and try uploading again, it sometimes doesn't seem to want to upload anymore. closing the browser and trying it again usually solves the problem. what gives?
