Question

counting number of records from different tables

Asked by: Kouras

Hi,
How can I count total number of records from one field named pages in different tables? I've got so far:
<%
Set MyConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
MdbFilePath = Server.MapPath("test.mdb")
MyConn.Open "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & MdbFilePath & ";"
%>
...............

<%
SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM myTable"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)
' Display result
Response.Write RS("pages")
RS.Close
%>

That will count records from field "pages" in myTable.............How about if I have same named field "pages" in myTable2 , and I wanna count records from both tables?

Cheers.

Kouras--

You have six open questions. Perhaps you could take care of them first before looking for help with this one?

In any case, the easy solution here is to create a variable to hold the values from each table count:

dim numRecords

numRecords = RS("pages")

run the query on the next table, and then"

numRecords = numRecords + RS("pages")

and etc.

Fritz the Blank , thanx 4 reply

Could you explain further,please. Will it be two query= select... strings?

As for other questions I posted, I solved them, but not with help who answered them, the only one answer I used was the validation form......Can I leave those questions open or do I have to do something with them?

Cheers.

by: fritz_the_blankPosted on 2003-04-13 at 18:29:13ID: 8324033

Yes, there will be as many select strings as there are tables that you want to grab the values from.

As far as the other questions go, either award the points to the people who helped you the most, or post a request in community support for a point refund. Whatever you do, just don't let them sit there.

fritz_the_blank , can you show example, please
coz I'm sitting here and can't figure out I'm getting false or true......?

Ok , I'll accept the other questions answers right now....coz you are the second person who saying that to me:))

Try this out!

<%
SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM Table1"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)
' Display result
Response.Write RS("pages")

SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM Table2"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)
' Display result
Response.Write RS("pages")
RS.Close
%>

by: jimboVBPosted on 2003-04-14 at 02:01:48ID: 8325361

example of that fritz meant...

<%
Dim numPages
numPage = 0
SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM [Table1]"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)

numPages = numPages + RS("page")

SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM [Table2]"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)

numPages = numPages + RS("page")

SQL_query = "SELECT Count(*) AS pages FROM [Table3"
Set RS = MyConn.Execute(SQL_query)

numPages = numPages + RS("page")

'.
'.
'.
response.write numPages

RS.close
%>

IF this is correct, pls award the pts to fritz, just trying to pt out his solution.  ^^

thanx, Jimbo
it works fine. You meant :
numPages = 0 , not
numPage = 0   :), but even without "s" in the end it still working... Why is that? Usually in asp everything should match.....

I will follow your suggestion, and give points to fritz.

Thanx,man.

by: jimboVBPosted on 2003-04-14 at 02:36:27ID: 8325483

well maybe when i declare
Dim numPages

the default is a null value, so either way it works even if you dont do numPages = 0

<%=DateDiff("d", Now, "04/08/02 00:00:00")*-1%>

...displays number of days past since 04/08/02.....
Is it possible to format it to show  like 1 year 3 moths 3 days.....?

Cheers
