Hi there!
Well, I once wrote an examination tool and I did it like this:
randomly select 10 questions out of the DB, make sure you don't have the same questions twice.
display the questions on the screen and store their questionid in a hidden form field
after submitting the answers to a processing page, the processing page can get the answers from the DB (using the questionid) and compare them to the answer the student gave. It then calculates the score and redirects to a page showing the score.
Good luck!
