Question

Portal installation problem

Asked by: saurabhgupta

I am installing IBuySpy Portal (http://www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=5&tabid=42) on Windows XP Profesional, with .NET Framework 1.0, MSDE 2000 and Mobile Internet Toolkit, but installation fails, saying all resources are not there (Screenshot http://www.getafile.com/cgi-bin/merlot/get/saurabh/files/scr.jpg). I am logged as administrator.

Also try getting .NET 1.1 if you downloaded one of the 1.0 beta versions.

Already tried that, and got no reply.
Installing .NET 1.1 did not help!

install IIS:
go to "Control Panel | Add Remove Programs | Windows Components"
select "Internet Information Services" from the list

if that is not the case make sure the "World Wide Web Publishing" service is started:
"Start | Run", type:
NET START "World Wide Web Publishing"

I take it you have either SQL Server or MDSE on you PC? I think that SQL Server (depending on version) doesn't sit properly on an XP Pro machine as it's not classified as a Server.

IIS might be locked down or not installed.. reinstall it.. check is the default website is running and that you didn't alter any permissions.. also if you install other web servers iis might go down (tom cat)
you might have installed the .net framework before installing iis or
It happens that you lost ASP.NET application mappings for IIS. To fix it u have to launch the utility aspnet_regiis.exe from -i command from your dos console

You find the aspnet_regiis.exe in the diretcory where you installed the framework:
