The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Need help with progress bars

Asked by saabStory in Active Server Pages (ASP)

I've been experimenting with different progress bar solutions for the better part of the week and can't find anything that will do what I need.  I have an application that can generate some fairly long database queries.  Naturally, I want to put up a message with a bar to let the user know the process is working..

But, the powers that be want more.  What I'm needing now is to have a series of messages that track with specific phases of the query and subsequent retrieval and display.  I also plan to toss up a window offering the user a chance to download the recordset if it is more than 5000 records.

So, the first thing I do is query the database to get a count - I need a progress bar or window or something at this point that says getting records or some such.  If the count is over 5k then I pop an alert window.  If less, then I start pulling back the records.  Here I need the message to change to something else - like getting data or something.  Then, once the data downloads and page starts to build, they want the message to change again to something like "Building table" - I don't think this last part is do-able but I want to ask anyway.

I would prefer for the different messages to be event driven rather than based on a timer as I don't have any way of knowing how long some of the really large queries may take.

I know this is a bigee so any help would be more than greatly appreciated
