Question

Using-<!--#include virtual ="/iissamples/homepage/sub.inc"-->in a webpage

Asked by: dvdljns

I am using pws for testing html,php and perl. It works great but now I need to setup a webpage the includes in pws. guest book,excetra.
The first plan was to use the dimranwizard in pws to setup a new theme.
I FAILED. The problam is there is really not any info on this.
It is a project for a veteran asp programer.
It does not matter how it is done as long as it able to use the guestbook and otherasp stuff from pws.
It needs to be something a beginner can setup like the themes already in pws,and I need to be able to provide the info on an as needed bases to repeat it.
The webpage that is being used is a three column page.
"What some oldtimers call The Holy grail"
The project is to set this provide the abilty to set this website up on a private network without any knowledge of html, asp,excetra which is what pws provides.
To provide enough info an intremediate could possably costamize evan more.

This question is worth more than 500 points. I am going to talk to the moderators and see if I can get an exception made. this project is very important and I have checked every tutoraul I can find on the web.
I've wrote hello world so many I actualy dreamed about it.
I am going to need a lot of help from someone who is good at classic asp. I have 1225 points and I am going to see if I can award the all to the person or persons that help me resolve this.

["The first plan was to use the dimranwizard in pws to setup a new theme."]

I do not know how much you know about pws, but what it is supply the ability to setup a website without any knowledge except how to click the mouse and type a little personal info in.

It is perfect for a network without outside access. After expermenting two things was decided.

1.the old themes does not fit in with what the company wants.
2. Almost nobody will use the old themes to setup their website.

[do u have the frontpage extensions properly installed?]

Yes.

[u need to setup the guretbook etc... basically aspo pages to run from pws ?? ]

Yes, but only one style

what is the error u r gettin when u run a asp page?

Depends on which time I tried. when I tried to rewrite the existing files. I got an error on almost every command I wrote.

The last time when I tried by using the virtaul include in the html page, I did not get an error just none of the asp stuff showed up.

I beleive and I may be wrong here. I need to understand Two files used in pws .

1.layout.inc
2.setup.inc

I could provide a link to all the files in pws through pm.
But would prefer to not post them. The last time I posted the link to this comp. I had to wipe my drive and reinstall .

I can post the files but will be a big post.

I hope this explains what I am trying to do.

When it was decided that one person would spend the time to change the themes and assigned to me. We thought their would be a lot of documentation on the subject.
I have found none.
What we need is to provde a way to setup this website for people with no knowledge of html or asp.

I am sure that there is a way to do this by setting up the virtaul include in the head of the html and calling the page from the doc.

But so for I have not  been able to call it from the doc.

The local collages provide courses in .net but not in classic php.

Lets take layout.inc

Which seems to me to be another type of css.

it starts like this.

If myinfo.Theme = "looseleaf" Then
      response.write "<FONT FACE='VERDANA' SIZE='-2'>"
      '      $Date: 9/11/97 5:07p $
      '      $ModTime: $
      '      $Revision: 8 $
      '      $Workfile: layout.inc $
      response.write "<TABLE width='100%' height='100%' "_
    & "cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='0' BGColor='#FFFFFF'>"

First thing where is myinfo.theme.

The first step to understanding it is take a look at it.

Ok the cell padding cell  and border is what I want. cellspacing ?

now if I do something like this Responce.write"<TABLE width=' 20%' Height='100%'& "cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='0' BGColor='#FFFFFF'>"

 Responce.write"<TABLE width=' 40%' Height='100%'& "cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='0' BGColor='#FFFFFF'>"

Responce.write"<TABLE width=' 20%' Height='100%'& "cellpadding='0' cellspacing='0' border='0' BGColor='#FFFFFF'>"

Now I am pretty dum about this but don't I have to do something about positioning them.
Where would I find info on that.?

try this code ..
<%@ language=vbscript %>
<%response.write "Tesing the web page"%>
<HTML>
<head>
</head>
<body>
<br>
   <h1>Within the Body</h1>
</body>
</HTML>

save it as test.asp in ur local web server's root folder and try to access  it with "http://localhost/test.asp" .. does it print the 2 sentences? if yes, then ur pws or web server can process asp pages ..
for the theme .. u could use stylesheets ..

Ok !  the webpage is showing up. It is not done the way I would like it to be done. But it will work.
Now I need to find out the right way to do a virtual include.

by: RejojohnyPosted on 2004-07-19 at 06:56:39ID: 11583267

for including a file try ...
<include file='Test.inc path='MyDocs/' /> .. i think this is the syntax
