Browse All TopicsMy Access DB file is locked from Web pages (.asp using VBScript) and also from users on the networkdirectly opening the DB. I can find ways to disconnect network users to perform DB maintenance/update, but cannot find a way to disconnect the web users/processes that are also locking the database file. Currently, I have to wait until there are no web users (very inconvenient). The connection from the web pages is DSN-less, but I am not sure if that matters. Thanks for any insight on disconnecting ALL users/processes to perform DB maintenance/repair/update.

You should make certain that you ASP code explicity closes and destroys all connections as quickly as possible after they are opened:
objConnection.Close
set objConnection = Nothing
Apart from that, you could disable the site in IIS and allow all of the sessions to expire (usually about 20 minutes).

FtB,
it would be nice to locate the processes and kill them (like the shared network db process connections), but I think it is not possible with web db connections. Thanks for your advice, and I will double-check all my ASP code for connection closure/destruction.
It is not a realistic option to shut down the web, given the number of users and the expanse of the web site, but has been done before in urgent situations (and will always be a last resort in the back of my mind).
