The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Calculating start time and end time by seconds

Asked by Mach03 in Active Server Pages (ASP)

I've have a simple problem here that I just can't figure out.   I'm using the Server Function ("Dynu.DNS") to get the computer name of the computer when someone logs into the website.  But unfortunately it takes about 5 seconds to process on my machine (becuase I have it locked down).  So, to find out how many other people will experience the same delay in logging in, I want to be able to record the number of seconds it takes to process the ("Dynu.DNS").

What I've done so far to calculate the seconds is:

strStartTime = Now()
Set oDNS = Server.Createobject("Dynu.DNS")
strName = oDNS.ReverseLookup(GetIPAddress)
stProcessSeconds - Now() - strStartTime

If I put "strProcess" in a decimal field (18,9) it returns .00005734.  I think it's trying to tell me 5.734 seconds.. howerver, when I try to multiple the result by 100000 it comes up with some -32 thousand number.
If I conver the field to varchar, then the retun value is a complete date such as 1/15/1982 ...

I'm trying to store this result into a decimal field so I could run some calculations on it later.  So what am I doing wrong here?  I want the result to be 5.734 to be stored into a Decimal field.

Thanks,
