Gap between my navigation and body causing problems

My site was built before I started using scripts. The script in this particular case is activated when someone tries to leave the site...a drop down, which is fine, when someone actually leaves. BUT the gap that is between the body and the navigation tabs (see attached) is activating the script, even when someone tries to just NAVIGATE to a different page. The only option I have is just to remove the script which I like. I do not know how to delete the gap, and if I do, I don't know if the site will look as good as it does now.
