Checkboxes are stored in worksheet.Shapes.

Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet ws = (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Worksheet) wb.Sheets.get_Item("Sheet1");
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.CheckBox cb =
(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.CheckBox)ws.Shapes.Item("Check box 1").OLEFormat.Object;
//cb.Value will return 1 if the checkbox is checked

Thanks a lot! Your code is working fine.
OK, CheckBox is a Shape....but
1. How can I know I need .OLEFormat.Object?! From what document, help file or what ever source?
2. I want to confirm that if the check box is not checked, the return value is a negative value, instead of a 0.
3. I want to know more: How about If the check box is an ActiveX Control?

Response to your subsequent questions:
1. Refer MSDN for info on VBA.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa272264(office.11).aspx
2. Yes, this is true. Its -4146 to be precise.
3. The shape's Type will tell u whether its a form control or an active x control. For a Form control, the shape's Type property is msoFormControl, whereas for an active control, it is msoOLEControlObject, you are better off using the OLEObjects property. Refer this for more details: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa221581(office.11).aspx

Thanks for telling me the links.

I have just tested that following code not works:
Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.CheckBox cb =
(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.CheckBox)sheet.Shapes.Item("CheckBox1").OLEFormat.Object;

where "CheckBox1" is an ActiveX Control. The error massage is
Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.CheckBox'.

If the check box is a Form Control, the code works fine.

Guess u missed my point earlier
>> you are better off using the OLEObjects property
Use it this way:
(Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject)(sheet.OLEObjects("CheckBox1"))

I have noticed that for C#, you need to identify the types specifically, while VB.Net is more lenient towards it.
This works in VB.Net, but not in C#
sheet.OLEObjects("CheckBox1").Object.Value
since the property Object is not defined for class Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject. If we can find out what the specific type is for an OLE checkbox, then casting sheet.OLEObjects("CheckBox1") into it will allow us to do the same in C#.

Thank you.

Yes, this will work:
            Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject cb =
                        (Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject)(sheet.OLEObjects("CheckBox1"));
However, what I need is the Value property of CheckBox1, an OLEObject gets no such property:
            MessageBox.Show(cb.Value.ToString());
will cause
            Error 1 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.OLEObject' does not contain a definition for 'Value'

by: sudheeshthegreatPosted on 2009-08-06 at 04:35:06ID: 25032083

cb.Object.Value actually. As I mentioned this goes thru in VB.Net, but not in C#. The latter has stronger type checks.

Thank you.
           MessageBox.Show(cb.Object.Value.ToString());
will cause
          Error 1 'object' does not contain a definition for 'Value' and no extension method 'Value'......
