Question

How do I date and time stamping web pages

Asked by: digisel

I need to provide a record for the court on pages that were available to view on the Internet.

I thus need to access certain Web pages (and a downloadable pdf file) and to date and time stamp each one.

Can you tell me the best way to do this please?

Your question is not very clear - it looks like you want to display on your web page some statistics about how many times each page has been accessed?

Do you want to do this in ASP.NET?
Do you want to display this nformation to the public - or keep a record of it in a database?

I want to capture certain pages on sample.com

The captured screens need to be date stamped in the same way as an image taken with a digital camera can be date and time stamped.

The purpose of associating a date with the captured  Web page is to be able to testify or show that this the court that the page was being displayed on the Internet on that particular date.

There are some third party .NET component that would make this very easy:

http://www.websitesscreenshot.com/Usage.html

But it's not too complicated to do using the built in .NET drawing object combned with the built it web browser:

http://daron.yondem.com/CommentView.aspx?guid=ebff529c-3bd8-446d-80fd-58463cfc44fd

Then you would again use the Drawing object to out the date and time on it - something like the function below. One would need to change it a bit - to read the image as a stream rather than a file - but thats the general idea

Once you have that setup as an ASPX page - I would use the Windows Script Host and the Windows scheduler to take at snapshot of the website at particular intervals or times.

    Dim TmpSize As System.Drawing.Size
    Dim Image As Image = System.Drawing.Image.FromFile(OldImage)
    Dim Brush As New SolidBrush(Color)

    'Read Image Dimensions
    TmpSize.Height = Image.Height
    TmpSize.Width = Image.Width

    'Create a new Bitmap Object
    Dim NewBitmap As New System.Drawing.Bitmap(Image, TmpSize)

    'Create a new Graphic Object
    Dim Graphic As System.Drawing.Graphics = System.Drawing.Graphics.FromImage(NewBitmap)

    'Draw String on Image
    Graphic.DrawString(Text, Font, Brush, Position)

    'Save new Image
    NewBitmap.Save(NewImage, Format)

    Graphic.Dispose()
    NewBitmap.Dispose()
End Sub

Thanks for your time and trouble.   I am not technical and that all sounds pretty complicated to a layman.
I was hoping that you might direct me to some freeware, shareware or whatever that would do it for me.

I have tried searching for something that would do the job.

If there is nothing then I will have to leave it.

Right - gotcha - as it happens,  the same people who wrote the component for ASP that I mentioned above have made an application too.

I think this should do what you need:
