Slow MySQL Connection through ODBC 5.1 Driver and ASP

I use the MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver with an ASP page to connect to our MySQL 5.075.

The problem I have is that it takes a long time (about 10 to 15 seconds) to connect to the database the first time.

Here is my connection string:
Driver={MySQL ODBC 5.1 Driver};Server=MyServer;Database=MyDatabase; PORT=3306; user=MyUser;password=MyPassword;option=3"

If I reload the page, or continue to execute,  it is really fast, but if I wait a few minutes the initial connection is slow again.
