The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problem having spans tile inside a container in Netscape 4.7x

Asked by immano in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Tags: css, div

Greetings.

I am attempting to have multiple spans fill out a container space (body, or a div, or a TD) accordingly to its size, think of different window sizes or screen resolutions.

For example, think of  this style:

.framedbox{display:inline; position:relative; width:300px; border:2px;border-style:solid; border-color:#ee9c00; margin:5px;}

and these tags inside the body:

<span class="framedbox">
<table width=300 cellpadding=2 border=0>
<tr><td bgcolor=#EE9C00 align=center ><font color=#cd0404>insert TITLE here</font></td></tr>
<tr><td align=justify bgcolor=#cd0404><font color=#EE9C00>insert DESCRIPTION here</font><br></td></tr>
</table>
</span>

<span class="framedbox">
<table width=300 cellpadding=2 border=0>
<tr><td bgcolor=#EE9C00 align=center ><font color=#cd0404>insert TITLE here</font></td></tr>
<tr><td align=justify bgcolor=#cd0404><font color=#EE9C00>insert DESCRIPTION here</font><br></td></tr>
</table>
</span>

Now, what I want to happen, which is what happens in Internet Explorer (v6 win), is that the two spans above lay side by side. If I put a dozen of them, and stretch the window width to, say, 1000pixel, they will tile sideways to fill the new width, so there will be 4 of them on a row, and then they'll break line, checkering the page.

However, this won't work in Netscape 4.79. Not even changing the display or position css properties will do the trick, which is downright annoying. They just stack in a column. I actually resorted to span because it should be an inline box, but perhaps something is escaping my perception of the matter.

I unfortunately need to have this work on both browsers, so if anybody has any idea how to fix or workaround this, thanks in advance.
