The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Delay in loading stylesheet on page

Asked by GroverDill in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Tags: , , ,

This is a problem that has been driving me crazy for weeks. It seems to happen all the time on my pages, but I don't see it so much on outside pages, so I'm not really sure what the deal is. I'm assuming it's something I'm doing wrong, but for the life of me I can't figure out what it could be.

The problem is that, when I load up my webpage, every once in a while there will be a considerable delay between the time the html loads and the time the css kicks in. The effect is that the page looks hideous for about three seconds, and then rebuilds itself correctly. It seems to be happening maybe 10% of the time, and I'd like to reduce that to 0% if at all possible (or maybe make the rendering of the page wait while the css catches up...)

Here's one of the pages that does this:

http://www.peasej.com

and here's the line that calls the css, for your convenience

<style type="text/css" media="all">@import "http://www.jesush.com/peasej/styles.css";</style>

A note: feel free to let me know if you think any of my coding is incredibly ugly, either in css or html (the page is actually built using php, but I want my php to build nice html, so, yeah), since one of my goals is to make the coding style non-stupid. The site design itself is a work in progress, so I'm perfectly okay with it being ugly, for the moment...
