Bit tricky CD& - I'm using a textarea replacement which inserts <p> tags whether I like it or not.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI'm using a background image for the <p> tag.
p {
background-image: url(pbak.gif);
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: left bottom;
}
This places a nicely styled horizontal rule just below the bottom line of each paragraph.
However, if I have a list inside the paragraph.
eg
<p>Stuff
<ul>
<li>First Item</li>
<li>Second Item</li>
</ul>
More Stuff
</p>
then my nice horizontal rule appears above the list. Adding the list forces the paragraph to end. Is there a way to have the list inside the paragraph, or is my code incorrect?
I've tried <ul style="display: inline;"> but it didn't work.

Yeah, you should have done this:
<div class="classwithimagebackg
<p>Stuff</p>
<ul>
<li>First Item</li>
<li>Second Item</li>
</ul>
<p>More Stuff</p>
</div>
If you had tried to validate your page
http://validator.w3.org/
You would have gotten this error:
"end tag for element "P" which is not open"
Which is telling you that starting the UL automatically closed the preceding P since a P cannot contain UL.

A p tag is not intended to be a general container the correct tag fro that is a div.
<div>Stuff
<ul>
<li>First Item</li>
<li>Second Item</li>
</ul>
More Stuff
</div>
Will give you the desired effect, just put the styleing on the div.
