The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

New CSS breaking on IE 6.0

Asked by Sivakatirswami in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Dynamic HTML (DHTML)

Ouch, some of our team did a cool job re-designing our site with CSS pull down menus. Instead of stopping there we started trying to constrain the "stretchy" behavior of the page...using "max-width" and stuff like that.... all on a Mac using Firefox and Safari. Meanwhile, no on-going cross platform browser tests were being made.  (Right, I know: this doesn't qualify as "best practice" of course! )  and now this DOM + CSS is broken on IE 6.0 (and that's like 80% of the browsers coming to the site)

http://www.himalayanacademy.com/resources/

But the "mac fanatic -- web philosophy department"  takes the position "not our problem, the CSS is up to standard, Windows users just need to upgrade to IE 7.0" and the solution was to: a) leave it broken b) put up an ugly message for windows users to upgrade.   OK, that "shocked" more than one of us here, but that's another discussion.

As web server admin, I need stay away from  quicksand discussions and focus on solutions. I would pay 10,000 points to just someone take a quicklook at the code and see if you can identify a couple of  key CSS rules that are causing the breakage on IE 6.0  We are not vested 100% in contrain width issue, if I can just keep the pull down navigation and make the rest work on IE  then we can drop a few rules that are causing the breakage on IE 6.0 But, no one here is really competent to figure this out, and available man-hours for the web dev ran out...

I tried quirks mode in IE... didn't help... I got an old Del booted up here so at least now I will be able to preview in Windows in IE 6.0. If you validate the page, please ignore the errors generated by that old Google search block... that is not the issue.

HELP!

In addition to points I promise a care package of lovely publications from Hawaii to anyone who can solve this and will send me their postal address off line. :-)
