Border Affects Div Display

Hi Experts,

I have the following div:

.contentBox {
    position: relative;
    margin-bottom: 6px;
    border: solid blue 1px;
}

In Firefox, when the border is set to 1px, the bottom margin displays properly, but when set to 0px (which is what I want- no border) the margin does not work.  Can someone tell me the reason for this?  

I have noticed this before- that inserting a border seems to alter the display properties of a div.  I would be interested to find out how this works.
