The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

CSS Layout Problem

Asked by lukeinjax in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Extensible HTML (XHTML)

I am working on a layout that I am having considerable trouble with. My layout involves a left column (dark gray), header (light gray), footer (light gray), and center (yellow) column.

See this link for an image of the layout - http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/240/layoutei3.gif.

The left column has a drop shadow on it and the header and footer should stay anchored to the top of the outer container even when there is no content in the content area. When there is content, it should fill up the content area from left to right when viewed on different monitor resolutions (from 800 wide to 1400 wide). When either the center content area or the left column increase in height, the other should increase to match it to keep an overall square shape to the layout, and the header and footer should stay anchored.

See this image as an example of a narrower resolution where the content in the center causes the yellow area to expand and the left column expands with it, even though there is not enough content in the column to push it down - http://img388.imageshack.us/img388/8982/layout2yx9.gif

I do not want to use Javascript or tables, only HTML and CSS. The layout must be cross-browser (Firefox 1.5 and 2.0, IE 6.0 and 7.0, Safari 2.0) compatible.Start Free Trial
