The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't float a div over flash in Firefox for Linux

At the minute I have a site which has its navigation across the top as <ul>'s with sub menus which pop out on hover.

Just below that I have a flash video, which I embedding using swfobject(javascript).

I then have another DIV, the same height and width as the flash video which I've overlayed over the top of the flash video, and when the visitor clicks links on the page the DIV over the top of the flash video appears with text in it relating to the link they've clicked.

Now, I've managed to get this to work in IE6, IE7 and Firefox on Windows. I originally had problems getting the DIV and the navigations sub menu to hover over the top of the flash video, but I've been able to resolve that. However I've gone to test this in Firefox on Linux Ubuntu, and neither the DIV or the navigations sub menu's appear over the top of the flash file.

I've tried searching Google and found a few solutions involving using an iFrame, which I've been unable to get to work.

Is there an easier solution?

I've got the z-index's of each DIV set correctly, which allows it to work in IE6,7, and FF on Windows. So I'm certain it's nothing to do with the z-index.

I would post a link to the site, but it's something I'm developing for a client who wouldn't appreciate us sending people to their website just yet.Start Free Trial
