Accessibility and CSS - things to know for a beginner

Hi,

I am starting CSS from scratch with the aim of modifying our existing HTML, XSL based sites and making them accessible with CSS.  I have samples and some guidelines of what accessibility is all about.  However, our sites are huge.  I am wondering if there is a standard way of modifying such sites to use CSS rather than HTML formatting.  What advice, (pitfalls to avoid and must do's) can you give to a beginner (to CSS).  Links to great CSS sites would be useful too but the general guidance is more important.
