The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Div height percentage setting being ignored by Firefox

Tags: CSS, Firefox 2.0, IE7, http://paultipper.net/divheight/iframe.xhtml
I'm trying to use CSS to set the heights of the three main divs on a page I'm developing. Basically, the page will consist of a banner across the top, a sidebar on the left-hand side (that will contain the site menu), and then a content div filling the remaining space below the banner. I've tried setting the heights of the three divs as follows in the stylesheet:

div.banner {
      background-color: darkblue;
      color: white;
       width: 100%;
       height: 15%;
      display: block;
}

 div.sidebar
 {
      background-color: #CCEEFF;
       width: 250px;
       height: 84%;
       float: left;
      clear: none;
 }

 div.content
 {
       background-color: #FFEECC;
       height: 84%;
       width: auto;
    float: left;
      clear: none;
}

So, the heights of the three divs should be as follows:

Banner - 15%
Side bar - 85%
Content - 85%

I expect the divs to fill the window nicely (without scrollbars), and the background colours to fill the divs down to the end of the page when the page is loaded and/or resized. This works in IE7, but not in Firefox: see http://paultipper.net/divheight/iframe.xhtml to see what I mean.

Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this working in Firefox (without resorting to Javascript)?

Of course, I could achieve the same layout easily using frames, but these seem to be widely deprecated for usability reasons and because of problems with search engines. What's the general view on this; should I persevere with divs, or should I use frames instead?
