I have a not-so-hypothetical question, regarding a website being designed by two people. This is strictly an opinion question, but I'd be extremely interested in the opinions of web design experts.
A website is created that allows users to sign up and advertise on the site. The search function of the site is designed to allow records to be searched in different ways, allows users of the site to have relationships with each other which can affect search results, chat with each other, upload/dowload files, and other goodies.
The division of labor between the two people was, more or less, as follows:
Person One: anything that involves scripting, AJAX, Javascript, database design, data storage, data
processing, search algorithm, security.
Person Two: aesthetics, CSS, presentation, design
Assume that person one and person two each perform their tasks well (ie person two can't claim he made an excellent aesthetic design while the person one designed the database so that queries are slow and the scripts are useless, nor vice versa).
It is certainly true that both contributions are essential to the site, but how should their contributions be valued? Iif the site generates revenue, how should it be divided?
