CSS positioning  vs. regular CSS

Asked by danomatic in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Web Languages/Standards, Extensible HTML (XHTML)

Is there any advantage or disadvantage to making a web page layout using relative and absolute positioning (what are sometimes called layers?) vs. a regular CSS layout where you just have regular div tags?

If anyone could point me to any articles that might be relevant.
