The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Retaining active image state on submenu hover

Asked by usk1 in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), JavaScript

Tags: , ,

Hey guys

Really hoping someone can help me out with this one as I have a few websites that could use it :-)

I am currently using the excellent Suckerfish dropdown menu system as described here:

http://htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns

This is working brilliantly, and I have it running nicely on a number of sites - some with simple text making up the main navigation links, others with images. My question relates to the latter of these.

I have a main navigation list made up of images (contained within ul and li). One of the main links triggers an embedded ul, which is acting as the submenu (ala Suckerfish). This is all working well, although I am wondering how to keep the image hover state of the main navigation link active when hovering over the submenu items. Currently as soon as you leave the main link and hover over the items within the submenu, the hover state is lost and the menu can look out of place. I would like to colour the submenu using the same gradient as the main navigation image to keep things consistent.

Is there a way of doing this? I'm not very good with Javascript but am guessing that this is what is needed? I assume you would requrie a script that is called upon hovering over the main navigation image which then keeps the state in place while the mouse is hovering over any of the links in the submenu? As I said I'm pretty new to javascript so wouldn't have a clue of how to do this.

I've searched the net and EE quite extensively but can't quite find a solution for what I need. All the ones I have found so far relate to commercial menu systems - not those made up with uls and CSS.

Thanks in advance guys, any help would be greatly appreciated :-)
