The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Why doesn't my 3 column layout work under IE and FireFox the same way?

Asked by dyarosh in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Here is my problem.  Everytime I develop a new website I seem to run into the same problem with IE and FireFox when it comes to laying out my page.  Attached are 2 files, an html file and its CSS file (remove the .txt so that the files will display properly in your browser).  Please note that the colors in the CSS are used only to define the different sections - this is not a real website.

If you open layout.html in IE you will see that all of the sections are right next to each other as they should be except the footer section.  There is a space or padding between the bottom of the longest column and the footer section.

If you open the layout.html in FireFox (2.0 in my case) you will see that the footer lines up the way it should without any space or padding between the bottom of the longest column and the footer section which is what I want.  However you will also see that there is spacing or padding between the top of the page and the header and between the header and the menu which doesn't happen in IE.

So ultimately my question is how do I get the footer area to appear in IE like it does in FireFox and how do I get the header to appear in FireFox like it does in IE?

I am awarding 500 points to whomever solves this and wish that I could reward more points.Start Free Trial
