The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Troubleshooting text showing in bigger font size than it should

Asked by jentel2 in Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

I am troubleshooting a text size issue. Here are simplified css decelerations:

.MyText { font-size:1.2em}
p {font-size: 1.2em>

in my html I have something like this. Note this simplified for clarification. I
<div class="MyText">This is test one</div>
<div class="MyText"><p>This is test two</p><div>

The problem is that 'This is test two' shows in a bigger font size. I am expecting both texts to have same size.

I used Firebug and inspected both texts and the font size shows as 1.2em for both. One from p and one from the class.

HOWEVER when I used the Web Developer extension and inspected both text, the bigger text has a font size of 14.4px and the smaller text has a font size of 12px. ( I am assuming 1.2em is 12px)

How can I use either Firebug or Web Developer to find out why the browser decided to show one text bigger than the other when both sizes are defined as 1.2em. Firebug shows both having 1.2em and thus not showing a discrepancy while Web Developer shows a discrepancy but I don't know how to use it to tell me what's causing it

The web page is of course more complicated than my example with other css declarations. Start Free Trial
