I have some tabular data that I am displaying in tables. If I want to put simple borders on the table I usually do something like:
.theTable {
border-right: 1px solid #f00;
border-bottom: 1px solid #f00;
}
.theTable TD {
border-left: 1px solid #f00;
border-top: 1px solid #f00;
}
That gives me borders on all the cells. If I want more complex borders I add css styles like:
.leftCell {
/* some styling that applies only on the left side of the table */
}
and then put that style on all the first TDs in each row.
However, I was wondering if there was some sort of css style that would eliminate the need to do all that manually. Is there something like that would allow me to apply borders only to the interior of a table or only to left cells or only to the last row, etc?

There are more advanced CSS selectors that can be used to do that. However, IE6 does not support them.
For example, instead of ".leftCell", you could use ".theTable td:first-child".
