If it is any consolation, my Asus M70Vn has the same problem on a regular basis, but I don't get the BSOD.
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have an HP Pavillion (Model a6750y, AMD 9650 Quad-Core 2.3 GHz, 8GM RAM, 64-bit, Vista)
I have two monitors:
- 24" HP (w2408h, rotates 90 degress)
- 19" Dell monitor (Generic PnP Monitor on ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics)
Frequently the monitors stop working and I get the blue screen of death, very ugly.
The error message is "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"
- sometimes this flashes once and the system is ok
- other times this flashes on and off a couple times and then the BSOD
How can I troubleshoot this further ?
In posting this I realized (it looks like that) I don't have the actual driver for the Dell so maybe that is causing all the consternation.

I downloaded and installed the 64-bit version you posted above. First installation had errors but then on 2nd install it seemed to go ok.
but then it still crashed :-(
Perhaps because I don't have the correct Dell driver, I will look into that. But I have to put on my reading glasses, turn the dumb thing upside down just to read the model # off the sticker . . .
I have the luxury of a twin HDD laptop so have Vista on one and Windows 7 on the other.
I spend most of my time on Windows 7 now and it is solid as. Got the 64-bit version and I love it. Sure is nice to see the back of the display driver problems.
Sure it is a workaround and not a fix, but I gave up trying to fix my Driver issues.

Please check in Device Manager what the driver version is of your graphics card. The latest one on HP's website is 8.540.0.0 and can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softl ib/softwar e10/COL260 17/pv-6682 3-1/sp4085 3.exe if you are using the 32-bit version of Vista.
64-bit version can be downlaoded here ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softl ib/softwar e10/COL271 36/pv-6762 4-1/ sp4093 2.exe
If you are up-to-date - please come back for other possilities.
