HTML SELECT covers custom DIV on IE6

I have heard that the SELECT boxes in IE are true windows, this is why they cover DIVs that my script is creating. Changing zindex does not help. Any idea? I have also seen a solution based on iframe but I have not understood it, can somebody explain or help?

This replaces standard SELECT with smart Selects where an input box is superimposed, which then displays matching lines in a DIV. The problem is that DIV is always behind the select, but only on IE. It works well on FF and other browsers.

Start IE6, put the focus on the second SELECT (labelled Output) close the list box that opens (click twice) and start typing the word mission, you will see that something similar to a dropbox appears but is hidden by the other selects that follow on the form.

I don't have IE 6 on my work PC.  But if no one has answered by this evening, I will take another look.

I think the problem exists with IE7 too, but it is solved with IE8. Unfortunately IE6 is still the main browesr in my company.
Tomorrow my free trial expires....., would be great if you could find a solution before... ;-)

I forgot to say that I am not allowed to change the html, only the js. I will try your solution on Monday in my office where I still have IE6.  Thanks anyway
