Question

Simple conditional validation for cfinput needed...

I have the following cfinput for uploading a file.

 <cfinput name="filename" type="file" size="50" id="filename">

If a file is selected, I need to make another cfinput field required.  

<cfinput type="text" name="version" value="" size="4" maxlength="4" range="#minver#,5" message="Invalid range">

500 points for the solution that kicks off the "required" validation for the second field.

i am sure someone will correct me it i am wrong but this can be only client site using javascript by putting a onChange action on your cfinput itself.

You was right: someone is going to correct you ;-)

It has to be checked on browser side BUT by CF methods.

Yes, onValidate generates javascript to peform the validation.  So ultimately it is still done client side ;-)  

But yes, you are right.  You should do this with <cfinput>'s onValidate attributes.

I was referring to the additional javascript code that CF generates to _call_ that code ;-)
