User directories that are masked

Asked by monosyth in Cold Fusion Markup Language, ColdFusion Application Server

I'm working on a simple website that will have users with their own profile pages. I was wondering if there was a way with CF to mask directories, and not have actual directories on my webserver. For instance, if someone types in http://www.mywebsite.com/myusername - it actually is something like www.mywebsite.com/profile.cfm?id=1234. I was wondering how sites like myspace (uses coldfusion) have user directories - do they actually have 200 million directories or are they masked somehow?
