Application.cfm and Session Timeouts

First of, I know enough to be dangerous. I think I might be having an issue. I have 2 application.cfm's in my website. one under the root site and one in an "Account" folder where people login. I am having trouble keeping people logged in. the system logs them out under 20 minutes or maybe 20 minutes. Clients tell me that they get logged out while they are in the process of doing something. So my question is, what am i doing wrong? I tried setting my timeout to 8hrs, (a full work day) and it doesn't seem to be working.

Also, i have applications outside the Account folder, in the root folder, called PropertyApp, where there are pages that do things, make templates, email flyers etc. I used to have a third application.cfm in that folder that was a copy of the one in my "Account" folder, but i've renamed that 1application.cfm quite awhile ago, and it still seems to work. Perhaps I need to move my PropertyApp folder into my Account folder so the application.cfm can trickle down the filetree?

I'm not sure i need application.cfm in my root, but only to use my database name thats it. (see code snippet)

Any help? Do i need an cfapplication in my application.cfm at the root? i know i need my variable set though here.
