Question

Can't control my HTML/CSS layout

I've recently begun messing around with css and divs to lay out my pages.  I'm getting better at it, but I've run across something that baffles me.

Here's the page: http://deathoffailure.com/onestate/

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid.  I just can't figure out what it is.

In IE, the header (red background, white text)  cuts off the bottom 4/5 of the text.  The Headline ("Not read to...") looks the way I intended.

In Firefox and Chrome, the header looks the way I intended, but the headline starts about 3/4 of an inch lower than I want.  

What am I doing wrong?

This is how you seperate CSS for ie and firefox
Firefox takes natural css, use these for ie6, 7, and 8

Not sure what to do with that.

It sounds like you're saying I need separate style sheets for the different version of ie.  If that's what you're saying, I still don't know what to put in the style sheets to get the result I'm after.  The code I used LOOKS right, to me.  I can't figure out why it's positioning strangely.

BTW, I've done other pages w/ a lot of DIVs and didn't run into this problem.  Can you tell what it is about this page that's doing that?

Ok i opened up all three browsers and took a screen shot.
IE, FF, and Chrome.
But the top looks the same. Are you referring to the distance between the top of your container and the top of the browser viewable area?

Hmmm, that's not how they look in mine.

See my screenshots.

In IE, I like where the headline is positioned.  In FF/Chrome, and in all three of yours, they're too far down.

In IE, my heading text is cut off.

Ok i think the problem may be here.(below)

Internet explorer pads on the inside of objects. FF and Chrome and the rest pad on the outside. I dunno why, but instead of using padding use {position:relative; margin-top:15px;}

That didn't work, either.  I've given up.  I just created a graphical header and put it there.
