Question

Basic settings for flex application (background color, stagewidth, stageheight)

Asked by: pman

How or where can I set basics for my flex application:

1. background color of application
2. stage width and stage height of application

My stage width after compiling/starting always is 500x400 Pixel. How can I set this values to e.g. 900x600 Pixels? Where can I define the background color?

Those properties are set in the mx:Application tag.

Hope that helps.

<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" width="900" height="600" backgroundColor="#333360">

Where do I have to place this tag?
I am using an "actionscript project".

In flex help I found: "MXML application file". But I don't know where to find or to place it in an actionscript project.

In your new Flex application, you will have a main application (MXML). This is what the typical bare MXML application file looks like.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" width="900" height="600" backgroundColor="#333360">

<!-- UI GOES HERE-->

</mx:Application>

But what, if I created an "actionscript project" and not a "Flex application"? Can I also use this xml file and where it is to be placed? Or does I have to define my properties on another position in an "actionscript project"?

Maybe, is it wise an possilbe to convert an "actionscript project" to a Flex application?

An Actionscript project is just that - a collection of AS files, no MXML.
In this case, you can set the same properties via Actionscript.

Have a great day!

this.width = 900;
this.height = 600;
this.backgroundColor = "#333360";

That doesn't work.

this.width and this.height take no effect. The projector window is 500x400 pixels.
this.backgroundColor produces an syntax error.

I tried it in this way:

package {
	import flash.display.*;

	public class ASTest extends MovieClip	{

		public function ASTest()	{
			this.width = 900;
			this.height = 500;
			this.backgroundColor = 0x333360;
		}
	}
}

I will convert to MXML. But it seems there is no solution for this problem in pure actionscript projects!?!

You can also embed it within your as file by doing this:

[SWF(width="800", height="600", frameRate="40", backgroundColor="#FFFFFF")]
