Adobe AIR, how to execute a script file

I am writing an Adobe AIR application that needs to run the mxmlc compiler from within the application. There are two things I don't know how to do:

First, how can I execute a command line program such as the mxmlc compiler from inside my  application?

Second, I need to be able to know when the execution of the mxmlc is done. Is there a way to register a listener to this type of operation so that my application can be informed when mxmlc is done with what its doing?

Any help would be immensely appreciated.

None of this is easy or possible with standard AIR.

The FluorineFx Aperture framework might help with launching external processes (on Windows only):

Can't help with the second part.

This is disappointing. One would think the ability to launch an external program would be a pretty frequent need by developers, at the very least to be able to run background processes and things like that.

Although I can't accept your response as the solution, I do thank you for taking the time to respond.

Alright, I guess Adobe AIR does not have this capability as of this point in time.

As far as bringing closure to this issue, I'm not sure how to proceed. I guess I'll just issue points to anyone who bothered to help.
