Hi, can anyone tell me what is s ogood about XML and
what are the features it can support ?
Do I need IE 5 to run XML ?

¡Á. IE5 is currently the only browser to support DHTML, DOM, CSS 2.0, PICS, XML, CDF, ActiveX, Java, and JavaScript/ECMAScript.


¡Á. You can embed XML into a document as data or metadata, with the entire XML Document Object Model exposed. You can intermix XML tags within the HTML document, where you can directly apply CSS properties to them, controlling their appearance

In short, XML allows you to make your own HTML markups. This means you can better describe the content on a page. For example, Experts-Exchange could use a <answer> markup. By using XSL (for style) and in IE5 probably CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) you can do some lay-out. So Experts-Exchange would ask browsers to put text in an <answer> tag into a table cell with a green header.
Such an approach would make it easier to find things in a semi-structured text, and allows domains to be specified in more detail. XML tries to standardize where SGML failed.

BTW: you can't really run XML, it's just a specification of a specification language;-) But IE5 is supposed to have parsers for it.
