The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Scrolling within a Table

Asked by FranzRinkleff in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML)

I have created a table.  It is very large.  You have to use the browsers horizontal and vertical scroll bars to see the entire table.  I want the user to be able to see the leftmost column and the top and bottom rows at all times.  When you use the browsers scroll bars these columns and rows move out of view.

So if i have say 20 columns and 100 rows.  I want the leftmost column and rows 1 and 100 on the screen at all times.  If  only 10 columns and 20 rows can be shown on the screen at one time.  I will need scrollbars in my table.

I have been using <thead> <tbody> <tfoot> but have not figured out what to do with them to make this work.

I did get something that worked sort of but it had some problems.

What should I be trying to do?

Do I need to put a table within a table?

If anyone has an example ot a table that does something similiar to this I would aprreciate it.

I also have another question.  The user wants to be able to print this table as well.  It will not fit on a page.  Is there anyway I can control where the page breaks.  If I have scrolling in my table I imagine it will not print the table with everything viewable.

I have found lots of places on the web that say if you use the <thead> <tbody> and <tfoot> tags you can get pages to print with the header and and footer on each page but I have not been able to do this.

Anyway any advice or examples you can give me would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Franz
