The div element has been supported by Netscrap all the way back to
version 2. The problem is that it requires styling to be useful and
Netscrap 4.x is pretty buggie on styles. However for positioning it
is okay as long as you can use absolute positioning.
If you can't use absolute positioning then the div will not be treated
like a layer so you can't address it in scripting which means the page
has to be pretty static.

If netscape doesn't understand DIV then you have done something wrong....there are a couple of differences between Netscape and Internet Explorer...but Netscape should generally understand DIV just as well as Internet Explorer does...
If you want an alternative to Internet Explorer's DIV...you can use the LAYER tag for Netscape....please bare in mind that LAYER is really a Netscape specific tag and it is totally read over by Internet Explorer as it doesn't recognize the tag.
The percentage of primary Netscape users is very small nowadays...that doesn't however mean that you should ignore that small group of people....
If you can show the code you are using where Netscape doesn't understand the DIV tag, then I might be able to help....
