Is it possible to change the style of only some of the text associated with an option element?
I'd like to do something like this:
<select>
<option value="1">This is a simple option</option>
<option value="2">This is a <b>great</b> option!</option>
<option value="3">This option has some <span style="color:red;">red</sp
<option value="4" style="color:red;">This works, but it changes *all* of the text and I only want to change some of it</option>
</select>
Browsers seem to ignore elements that occur within the content of an option element. Is there any way to change the style of only some of the content of an option element?

What you have to consider is that when you add an option element to a drop down element this is sort of a single control. Unlike text on the page where each charactor is seperate this element is treated as a whole object. So changing the colour of and individual letter / word is not practical or possible.
You might consider a custom solution either by programming it yourself or by using something like this:

I had a similar problem a while back. Unfortunaltly my conclusion was that it was not possible.
