The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Submit images/buttons don't work in IE
Hi, I'm using 12 images as submit buttons with this code for each of them:

<input type="image" src="images/bd/comparta.jpg" name="entid" value="3" />

For example: When I click on the image corresponding to the code above, it posts entid=3 without any trouble in Firefox, but in IE it doesn't sends this value.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Put your value in a hidden field in the form. IE will pick this up without problems..

05.06.2008 at 02:09PM PDT, ID: 21511097
How can I do that..... if I have values from 1 to 12 ? how could I make a selection in a hidden way ?

05.06.2008 at 02:20PM PDT, ID: 21511194
For example with a little bit of javascript.

use this function:

function ImageClick(ImageNumber) {

document.getElementById("HiddenField").value = ImageNumber;
document.form.submit();

}

add this to your imagebutton:
onclick="ImageClick('1'); return false;"  (replace the 1 with the appropriate number ofcoz)

Hope this helps

That is a very bad idea to submit the form in the onclick of a submit button (which an image button is)

Just add this to the image button

<form>
<input type="hidden" name="entid" value="not set" />

<input type="image" onClick="this.form.entid.value=1" src="..." />
<input type="image" onClick="this.form.entid.value=2" src="..." />
<input type="image" onClick="this.form.entid.value=3" src="..." />

It works great mplungjan!!!

Could you explain me why it is a very bad idea to submit the form in the onclick ?

If you have a submit button or an input type=image, clicking the button or the image will submit the form
If you then add an onClick that uses javascript to submit too, you are actually submitting twice.
Depending on the speed of your computer, the two submissions will interfere with each other.

Now the image button is not very compatible when it comes to javascript.
Some older browsers do not support the onClick at all.
Some not so old browsers will not see the return false used by Onthrax to stop the submission and some will not submit when they see the return false.

I do not know what image you are using - is it very different than a button?
If it is just a coloured button with text, I strongly suggest you change it to a submit button and style it using the technique found here:
